The Laramie River

There are two State Parks: Guernsey, see map and brochure, (10 miles east or RV Park) and Glendo, see map and brochure, (25 miles from RV Park) both have fishing, boating, swimming and water skiing.

There is one National Forest near the Park: Medicine Bow National Forest, see map, where Laramie Peak resides and for fishing, 4 wheeling, hiking and snow sledding. 35 miles away.

We have an abundance of history in the area:

Fort Laramie – History of the Fort: – Started out as a fur trade post in the 1830’s and in 1849 was purchased and its operations were taken over by the United States Army to protect the many wagon trains of migrant travelers on the Oregon Trail, just south of Guernsey; the ruts can be seen there. – The Fort had been through several wars from the Civil War in 1860’s, the Bozeman War with Red Cloud a great Sioux Chief and the great Sioux War in 1876-77 when there was the discovery of Gold in the Black Hills.
Register Cliff – Southeast of Guernsey. It is notable as a historic landmark for ‘registering’ hundreds of emigrants on the Oregon Trail. It was one of the key checkpoint landmarks for parties heading west along the Platte River valley west of Fort Laramie which allowed travelers to verify they were on the correct path up to South Pass and not moving into impassable mountain terrains.
